GRCTC/ACOI Presentation at UCC
The GRCTC, together with the Association of Compliance Officers Ireland (‘ACOI”) hosted a Regional Event held at UCC in Cork on March 9th, 2016.
The theme of the presentations from Peter Cowap, the GRC Technology Centre Director and Pamela Nodwell, the CFO and Head of Compliance for BlackBee Investments based in Cork, was the highly topical subject of ‘How to embed an AML compliant culture.
The development of a strong compliance risk culture is fundamental to sustaining a vibrant business. Embedding an effective compliance culture across areas of increased regulatory focus, such as Financial Crime Risk is a challenging task for all organisations.
This talk will focus specifically on AML and will examine applied tools, approaches and reinforcing actions that seek to address these challenges and assist organisations successfully embed their AML Risk and Compliance Programmes.
Particular attention will be given to practical approaches that can be applied in both large and small financial institutions.

Peter Cowap – Director of the Irish Government-funded Technology Centre for Financial Services – Governance, Risk and Compliance (GRCTC)
Peter is a member of the ACOI. He holds an LL.B (hons) in law (Leeds) and an MBA (Management) from the City University (now ‘Cass’) Business School in London, and has accumulated significant experience in the corporate governance, risk management and Compliance domains, having held senior positions in a number of banks and corporations including; AIB Group, Deloitte Ireland, the HSBC Group and Diageo PLC. Peter is also a Member of the ACOI’s Ethics Committee.
In his role as GRCTC Centre Director, Mr. Cowap will ensure that the aims and objectives of the centre, which was formulated by the industry members, is met by the research team, hosted by UCC and supported by UCD and NUIG. The industry membership includes a mix of indigenous, global and Ireland-based MNC financial services and FinTech companies.
Pamela Nodwell – Chief Financial Officer & Head of Compliance – BlackBee Investments Ltd
Pamela is a member of the ACOI and is a Licentiate of the Association of Compliance Officers in Ireland (LCOI). Pamela has over 10 years’ experience working in various senior roles in Finance, Audit, Compliance and Risk in Ireland and abroad. Pamela has previously worked for KPMG (Ireland), Ernst & Young (Bermuda), Deka International Ltd, Citco (Bermuda), Apex Fund Services (Isle of
Man) and Ballyphehane Credit Union.
Pamela holds a B.Comm (Hons) degree from University College Cork and is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants.
